“What worries me is the way Ilsa is stroking Prince’s arm and his still substantial ego, the man could end up as Beck’s stepfather. Xo says his aura is a bright orange now and most of the black is gone, so maybe he has changed.”

“I wonder what my psychic sister has to say about us.”

“That we are enveloped in the violet haze of love.”

  “She’s got that right.”

At midnight the bride and groom departed though the party went on for several more hours. A white limousine shot off into the night heading for the airport as a decoy. In the morning, the newlyweds would depart, not for Germany as they’d said, but to a secluded Caribbean isle to hone their salsa dancing and play in the waves for a week. Crammed in between training camp and the start of preseason games, they would make the most of it.

The newly married couple slipped upstairs to a bridal suite to spend the night. In no hurry because they knew how well their bodies fit together, what each of them enjoyed best, they cuddled together in bed, Stacy’s golden head lying close to Dean’s heart.

Raised in a household that revolved around football, she knew there would be special occasions missed in the future and perhaps even births without Dean by her side. She accepted that. She’d have the love and comfort of the Billodeaux family to see her through. Because of Dean’s one slip, Ilsa would always be part of their lives and Beck, too, the child not a burden like his mother. Anastasia Marya Polasky planned to manage that like true royalty.

“Was your wedding day all you wanted?” Dean asked.

“What I dreamed of all my life.”

“Not bad for a big lout, huh?”

“I hereby raise you to the rank of handsome prince—which you have been all along.” Stacy moved from his embrace, straddled his narrow waist, touched her fingertips to both sides of his shoulders as if she held a sword, and kissed his forehead with its wayward curl. “Arise, Prince Dean.”

“Glad you finally admitted that—and I am already arisen.”

Stacy did not answer except to say, “I think I’d like to be on top tonight.”

“Oh, no! The wedding was yours. The honeymoon is mine.”

They tussled in the sheets for position, and so the marriage of the princess and the lout began.

  A word about the author…

Once a librarian, now a writer of romance, Lynn Shurr grew up in Pennsylvania Dutch country. She attended a state college and earned a very impractical degree in English Literature. Her first job after graduating really was working in a burger joint. Moving from one humble job to another, she finally buckled down and got an M.A. in Librarianship.

Lynn found her first reference job in the heart of Cajun Country. For her, the old saying, “Once you’ve tasted bayou water, you will always stay here,” came true. She raised three children not far from the Bayou Teche and lives there still with her astronomer husband.

When not writing, Lynn likes to paint, cheer for the New Orleans Saints and LSU Tigers, and take long road trips practically anywhere. Her love of the Bayou Country, its history and customs, often shows in the background for her books.
